Creating an account
Signing up takes three short steps, then one email to activate.
Go to Create account. The form is split into three steps:
- Your name — full name, and a username made of letters, numbers, dots and dashes. The username is how other people find you.
- Email address — this is where the activation link goes, so use one you can open now.
- Password — at least 8 characters, entered twice.
Nothing is sent to the server until the final step. Moving between steps only checks that what you have typed makes sense — so no step can be used to discover which usernames or email addresses already exist.
Choosing a password
- Minimum 8 characters; mix letters, numbers and symbols.
- Do not reuse a password from another site.
- Passwords that appear in known public breaches are rejected — if yours is refused, it has been exposed somewhere else and is unsafe to use here.
Verify your email
Creating the account sends a verification link. Open it and the account is activated; you are then taken to sign in. Until you do this the account exists but is not verified, and some applications will refuse to accept it.
The link didn't arrive
- Check the spam or junk folder — activation mail comes from a no-reply address.
- Confirm the address you typed. A typo means the mail went somewhere else.
- Links expire. If yours has, sign up again with the same address or contact support.
After activation
Sign in and you land on your account dashboard, which summarises email verification, two-factor status, active sessions and your most recent sign-in. Two things worth doing straight away:
- Turn on two-factor authentication and save your recovery codes.
- Complete your profile, so connected applications receive a name and photo rather than a blank record.
